What is IT operations management (ITOM)?


IT Operations Management (ITOM) is the process of managing an organization’s business-critical applications resources and hybrid IT infrastructure. Enterprise infrastructure today can include public and private multi-cloud environments across virtual machines and container deployments and on-premises storages.


It is the job of the IT operations management team to support the goals of individual business units to improve overall experience,quality by maintaining service uptime, availability, and performance for digital services.

What are the functions of IT Operations Management?


Network Infrastructure Management

Network infrastructure is the hardware and software resources of an entire network that enable network connectivity, communication, operations and management of an enterprise network. It provides the communication path and services between users, processes, applications, services and external networks/the internet.

Computer Operations & Service Desk Support

IT Operation management includes the management of help desk services and the tasks can include service calls, ticketing, troubleshooting, and request fulfillment. IT operations Teans are also responsible for managing and testing backups, communicating information about incidents and network outages, controlling system access/licenses/user accounts, and implementing a disaster recovery for the business.

Server & Device Management

In addition to administering network infrastructure throughout the organization, IT operations teams are also responsible for managing network endpoints such as servers and devices. The task may include maintaing,patching an upgrading servers and any cloud-based infrastructure. IT Operations teams are also responsible for provisioning IT assets to users and ensure that applications have access to the storage space they need to function correctly.
