Hitachi Young Leaders Initiative 2022

The Hitachi Young Leaders Initiative (HYLI) 2022 was held in Singapore from July 18-21, 2022. High-level country selection panels chose 30 top student delegates to represent their countries at the programme. The students attended a series of plenary sessions, workshops, discussions and activities culminating with group presentations on their proposed initiatives for a sustainable future. Student delegates learned and interacted with prominent leaders and experts on the theme. Moreover, student participants participated in activities and intercultural exchange that can help establish global careers in future.

HYLI 2022 Student Delegates’ Learning Journey

The 16th edition of HYLI 2022, with its theme "Social Innovation in the New Normal", was designed to further develop the student delegates’ perception and understanding of how social innovation can help in adapting to the new normal, realise a sustainable society and improve the quality of life in the region.

Pre-HYLI / From May to June 2022

  • Identify material challenges in the areas of (1) Good Health and Wellbeing; (2) Clean Water and Sanitation; (3) Affordable and Clean Energy; and (4) Sustainable Cities and Communities in their represented country through mainly primary research.
  • Create an Infographic on the Positive and Negative Aspects of Social Innovation that has surfaced during the pandemic in their country through mainly secondary research.

Day 1 / 18 July 2022

  • Understand the possibilities of social innovation in the areas of Good Health and Wellbeing, Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Day 2 & Day 3 / 19-20 July 2022

  • Feel and experience social innovation in the area of Sustainable Cities and Communities, through hands on experience.
  • Discuss, deepen and pitch their idea with fellow delegates in teams focusing each on one of the four areas.

Day 4 / 21 July 2022

  • Present their perspectives in teams to an esteemed Advisory panel and receive feedback on how social innovation can help society adapt to the new normal in ASEAN and Japan and how youth can spearhead this change.
